At a company meeting on Thursday, dow chemical's chief executive, Andrew Liveris, revealed a series of steps to reshape the company's business, including selling the company's agrochemical business, the Wall Street journal reported. Mr Liveris said consolidation in the global agrochemical industry was intensifying and now was the right time to sell. Dow chemical's board has been considering the future development of its agrochemical business in recent years. And monsanto's recent bid for syngenta has opened the door to some big agrochemical companies.
However, dow has not been interested in the sale of the target. This is not the first time dow has tried to spin off its agrochemical business. A similar idea was proposed in 2009, but it has not materialised.
